Mean (± SE) numbers of branch points and terminations per cell for all cells (n) labeled in cultures grown in standard media with or without 1 μm TTX. Slices were cultured on P14–P15 and incubated for 5-7 d before cells were labeled. Values in layer 5 and layer 4 equivalent distance (ed) were compared for each cell, and the significance was evaluated for the population (Wilcoxon signed rank test). Asterisks represent values that were significantly higher in layer 4 ed vs. layer 5 levels. ns, No significant difference.
