The proportions of different CS and UCS responses and nonresponsive units are indicated by the pie graphs. The number under the pie indicates the total number of units recorded at that site. The functional distribution of CS+1 and UCS units is depicted by symbols surrounding each recording site: open circle indicates the unit that responded to CS+1 in late training, Y indicates the unit that responded to UCS, and circle/Y indicates the unit that responded to both CS+1 and UCS after learning.
