A significant increase in mRNA levels for the α1Dsubunit of the L-type Ca2+ channel was detected as a function of age in culture (*p < 0.05 vs 3 DIV; ANOVA and post hoc Student–Newman–Keuls comparisons test). Values are arbitrary density units for the specific message divided by the total RNA per preparation and are expressed as the mean ± SEM. n = 3–4 samples per time point.
