The postsynaptic voltage response to two HFS trains is affected by the timing of the second train. Note that the second train applied during the initial phase of the GDPSP leads to a slowing down of the depolarization, whereas the second train given while the GDPSP is at its peak or decaying phase induces a rapid hyperpolarization.
