SBP extracts induce expression of neurofilaments. (A): Cultured PC12 cells were treated with SBP_water and SBP_EtOH, or individual herbal extracts for 48 h. NGF at 50 ng/ml served as a positive control. SBP_EtOH, ethanol extracts of various herbal materials and Styrax solution were used at 100 μg/ml; and SBP_water, water extracts of various herbal materials, solutions of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma extract and Borneolum Syntheticum were used at 500 μg/ml. The cell lysates were collected to determine the expression of NF68 (∼68 kDa), NF160 (∼160 kDa), and NF200 (∼200 kDa). GAPDH (∼38 kDa) served as a loading control. (B): Quantification from the blots by a densitometer was shown. Values were expressed as the fold of change (x Basal) against the control (no treatment; set as 1), mean ± SEM, n = 4, * p < 0.05; ** p < 0.01; *** p < 0.001.
