Diagram illustrates the possible protective mechanism of mitophagy on hepatic fatty acid–induced hepatic insulin resistance. Enhanced mitophagy can degrade damaged mitochondria to restore mitochondrial function and accelerate mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation, which is beneficial to the reversion of hepatic fatty acid accumulation and the improvement of hepatic insulin resistance.
