Schematic diagram of the isolation of MSCs from the human umbilical cord and placenta. MSCs were isolated by MEC and EC from the different regions of the placenta and umbilical cord. Modified explant culture (MEC): the shredded tissue block was transferred to a centrifuge tube and incubated with digest media (0.1% collagenase IV) for 30 min, at 37 °C with gentle rocking. After digestion, tissue block was washed three times with PBS, centrifuged (300g, 5 min, 4 °C), resuspended with MSC Serum Free Media, then transferred to a T75 culture flask and cultured. Explant culture (EC): the shredded tissue block was mixed with MSC Serum Free Media, and then transferred to a T75 culture flask and cultured
