AICAr induces cell cycle arrest and differentiation in other monocytic cell lines, and these effects are abolished by uridine. Myeloblastic HL-60 (A), monocytic MOLM-14 (B), and THP-1 (C) cells were incubated with AICAr (0.2 mm) or brequinar (0.5 μm) and uridine (300 μm) for 72 h. Representative histograms of propidium-labeled cells analyzed by flow cytometry are shown. The number of viable cells and the expression of differentiation markers were determined as described under “Experimental procedures.” Results are mean ± S.E.
