Table 3. Pathology of Surgically Resected Nodules.
Pathological Result | Benign vs Malignant | No. of Patients (n = 51) | % of All Surgically Resected Nodules |
---|---|---|---|
Carcinoma | |||
Papillary | Malignant | 15 | 29.4 |
Follicular | Malignant | 8 | 15.7 |
Anaplastic | Malignant | 1 | 2.0 |
Noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features | Benign | 7 | 13.7 |
Adenoma | Benign | 18 | 35.3 |
Adenoma + incidental finding of microcarcinomaa | Benign | 2 | 3.9 |
Incidental microcarcinomas were grouped as benign for the purposes of this study, as the microcarcinomas were independent of the nodules evaluated by ultrasonography, fine-needle aspiration, and molecular testing. The nodule of interest was benign.
