Arrowheads indicate the posterio-ventral tip of the dentigerous arm of the premaxilla (scale bars = 1 mm). TH− specimens exhibited delayed cranial ossification. In many of our TH− specimens the calvarium (skull vault) was not fully ossified by 100 dpf. Both the overall size of the premaxilla and the length of its ascending arm relative to the length of its dentigerous arm were reduced in TH− fish. TH+ fish exhibited hypertrophied lower jaws.
