A diagram illustrating the major findings of this study. Briefly, (1) PCN and TCPOBOP exposure decreased Bifidobacterium spp., Anaeroplasma spp., and Dorea spp.; (2) lack of gut microbiota potentiated an increase in total, primary, conjugated and 6-OH BAs in SIC and liver, whereas secondary BAs were increased in CV mice by PCN exposure; and (3) expression of the genes in the alternative BA synthesis were decreased by PCN and TCPOBOP exposure in CV and GF mice, whereas Cyp7a1 was increased in GF mice by TCPOBOP.
