Reduced cholesterol clearance in NPC1-deficient Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells expressing variant p.Ile1061Thr NPC1. CHONPC1 cells develop a phenotype of cholesterol accumulation in lysosome-like storage organelles (LSOs). This phenotype can be corrected by gene transfer of wild type NPC1 cDNA using liposome-mediated cell transfection. (a) Fluorescence microscopic images.
