Isotope distribution in some marine polyether toxins following incorporation of 13C-labeled acetate, methionine, and glycolate. The carbon backbone contains intact acetate units as well as ones that have been cleaved within the chain. The pendant methyl groups are either derived from S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) or from acetate by the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) pathway.
