Shown is the inhibitory activity of pSP-D, hSP-D, and iSP-D against a broad panel of IAVs isolated from different animal species (swine, human, avian) and different subtypes (H1N1, H3N2, and H5N1). Values are lowest concentrations (ng/ml) required to fully inhibit 20 hemagglutination units/ml of the respective viruses diluted in PBS. A value of “>1,000” indicates no inhibition at the highest SP-D concentrations tested. Assay procedure and details are described in Materials and Methods section. Measurements were performed in duplo (except for H5N1 viruses: n = 1) and shown is the mean of three independent experiments with standard deviations in parentheses. Statistical analysis by two-tailed paired Student's t-test (*P < 0.05 vs. hSP-D).
