Biomarkers of kidney injury. Urine and blood samples were collected at 4 and 8 wk after streptozotocin (STZ) injection, and ELISA was used to determine levels of urinary albumin, creatinine, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) as well as plasma NGAL. A: urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratios (UACRs) were determined by normalizing urinary albumin to creatinine levels.
