Histological analysis of C. albicans invasive growth in the tongue. Tongues were harvested after 4 days of infection and then processed for histological staining by Grocott’s methenamine silver (GMS). Two representative areas are shown for each mutant. The mutants are ordered according to the extent of weight loss that they caused due to OPC (Fig. 2A). The strains are described in Table S2 in the supplemental material. Bar, 50 μm. Four tongues were analyzed for each mutant.
