Clodronate depletes microglial cells from OHSC. (A) PI labeled control OHSC with dentate gyrus and CA3. No PI positive nuclei (red) and ramified IB₄ (green) labeled microglial cells are visible. (B) Application of clodronate to CTL slices removed IB₄ positive microglial cells without damaging the neurons. (C) Treatment with NMDA led to massive increase in PI positive cells and IB₄ positive microglia. (D) Depletion of microglial cells led to exacerbation of neuronal damage after NMDA treatment in OHSC.
