Box plot of the variation in proportions of study medication use among physician-patient pairs across prescribing physicians in Ontario 2015, by physician antibiotic prescribing intensity. Physicians were grouped according to their antibiotic prescribing intensity and paired with the patients to whom they prescribed medications in 2015. There was wide variation observed in the use of benzodiazepines, opioids and proton-pump inhibitors, and high-intensity antibiotic prescribers demonstrated higher use for all three compared with average- and low-intensity prescribers.
