Pancreatic cancer cells with overexpression of CD133 in MIA-PACA2 cells (a) as well as endogenous CD133+ cells isolated from KPC tumors showed increased GAS5 expression (b). Similarly, exposure to hypoxia (c), nutritional stress (d) and chemotherapy (e) increased GAS5 expression. Silencing CD133 in CD133Hi cells decreased the expression of GAS5 (f). Further, inhibition of GAS5 by siRNA increased proliferation (g) and increased nucleic acid synthesis (h).
