VAR2CSA from P. reichenowi binds to the placental receptor CSA with high specificity. ELISA-based direct binding assay of the VAR2CSA-derived constructs to different sulphated glycosaminoglycans. Increasing concentrations of recombinant (a) Pr-VAR2CSA, (b) Pr-NTS-DBL2x, (c) Pr-DBL1x-tID2, (d) Pr-DBL1x-2x at serial dilutions of 0.31–20 μg/mL were added to wells previously coated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) or with different glycosaminoglycans; CSA-bearing bovine glycoprotein decorin, chondroitin sulphate A (CSA), chondroitin sulphate C (CSC). Error bars represent the standard deviation of 3 independent experiments.
