CAS is a multiorgan syndrome. Peritoneal metastasis induces a systemic inflammatory response triggered by hormonal and inflammatory mediators [59]. Changes caused by PM involve not only the intestines, but also brown and white adipose tissue, muscle, brain, liver, and heart. Thus, CAS in PM patients should be considered as a multi-organ, and not an abdominal syndrome (adapted from [12]).
