A. Speech perception outcomes measured from the experienced side (n = 28) (red) and naïve ear (n = 18) (blue) of CI users was assessed using the PBK speech test after 6 to 18 months of bilateral CI experience. Individual responses are indicated by the round symbols for the experienced‐right ear and diamonds for the naïve‐left ear, with mean performance shown by the bar graph. Performance on the experienced side was significantly better than the naïve side (P < 0.01). B. Analyses of cortical lateralization and performance on the PBK speech test indicated significant correlation between left hemisphere lateralization for peak P 2 (P < 0.05) and better speech scores on the experienced CI side. No significant correlations were found for dipole activity evoked by stimulation of the naïve side and speech perception.
