Regression lines were added if significant. The significant relationship between species richness and the standard effect sizes of average functional niche volume (C) do not exist when two mesocosms with the largest species richness are removed. The three standardized metrics were all significantly less than zero across the 24 mesocosms (P < 0.05, Wilcoxon signed-rank test).
