Voxel based morphometry revealed that gray matter (GM) volumes in the posterior cingulate and in the left middle temporal gyrus was reduced in Alzheimer's disease patients compared to those with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (p < 0.05, FWE corrected across the whole brain). These regions of significantly lower GM volume are shown in red‐yellow (representing the t value, ranging from 4.5 to 6.0), and superimposed onto a T1‐weighted template. The opposite contrast did not reveal any significant difference (see text for further details).
