The active site cysteine of PRDX5 is regulated by S-palmitoylation, which then blocks the H2O2-quenching antioxidant activity of the protein. ABHD10-mediated S-depalmitoylation releases the active form of PRDX5, which then reacts with H2O2 in a disulfide-mediated redox cycling mechanism. TXN: thioredoxin.
