Effects on aptitude and academic achievement in alcohol-exposed children. The Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K–ABC) tests IQ and academic achievement for children between 2 and 12 years of age. Children whose mothers stopped drinking during the second trimester of pregnancy are less affected (i.e., have higher IQ and achievement scores) than those whose mothers drank throughout pregnancy.
