Table 7.

Effects of DCM leaf extract of Gnidia glauca on body adiposity index (Bai) and atherogenic index (AI) in HFD-Induced obese rats.

Treatment Body Adiposity Index (BAI) (%) Atherogenic Index (AI) (%)
Normal Control 4.1 ± 0.2c 0.1 ± 0.1b
Negative Control 6.9 ± 0.2a 0.6 ± 0.1a
Positive Control 5.1 ± 0.3b -0.1 ± 0.1c
HFD+200 mg/kg 4.9 ± 0.3bc -0.1 ± 0.1c
HFD+250 mg/kg 4.3 ± 0.1c -0.2 ± 0.1cd
HFD+ 300 mg/kg 4.2 ± 0.2c -0.3 ± 0.1d

Results are expressed as Means ± SD for five animals per group. The means of Body Adiposity Index (BAI) and Atherogenic Index (AI) within respective columns followed by a superscript of similar lower-case letter (such as [a], [b & bc], [c, bc & cd] or [d & cd]) are not significantly different from each other (p > 0.01). However, in each column, means followed by superscripts of different lower-case letter (such as a, b, c & d) are significantly different from each other (p ≤ 0.01). Inferential statistics were performed using One way-ANOVA to test for statistical differences among studied groups. Tukey's post hoc test was then done for pairwise separation and comparison of means.
