Reef characteristics by subregion. Main descriptive reef characteristics related to reef accretion for each subregion (1:12, see Figure 2 for the location of each region). Points represent the mean of all transects within each cluster, segments define the 95% confidence limits. Mean coral cover (a, e) shows the percentage of the total three‐dimensional transect length covered by live coral (including Millepora spp.). Net carbonate (b, f) production (gross production minus gross erosion), given in G (kg CaCO₃ m⁻² year⁻¹). Measures for rugosity (c, g) are based on the chain and link technique (Risk, 1972).
