Glycolic acid production in MG1655 ΔtktA ΔtktB ΔglcD on D-xylose and L-arabinose. Strain Screen09 was MG1655 ΔtktA ΔtktB ΔglcD transformed with the IPTG inducible operon kdsD-fsaA (pKF3 in pZA36) and pA4 (aldA in pZS23), whereas strain Screen23 was MG1655 ΔtktA ΔtktB ΔglcD transformed with pKF6 (kdsD-fsaA in pZA38 under constitutive promoter proC) and pA7 (aldA in pZS27 under constitutive promoter proD). The strains were cultivated in mineral medium M9 at 37°C in the presence of D-xylose or L-arabinose at 10 g/L. GA was determined after 46 h of growth by HPLC. The results shown are the mean ± SD of three independent experiments.
