Patients were identified by initial oral anticoagulant therapy for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and stratified by subgroups of interest from the MarketScan Commercial Claims and Encounters and Medicare Supplemental and Coordination of Benefits databases from January 1, 2010, through September 30, 2015. Models were adjusted for age, sex, CHA₂DS₂-VASc (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age [>65 years = 1 point; >75 years = 2 points], diabetes, and previous stroke/transient ischemic attack [2 points], vascular disease) score, high-dimensional propensity score, and frailty.
