(Color online) Overview of the proposed time-frequency importance function technique. The intelligibility is measured of an utterance mixed with many instances of noise with randomly placed “bubbles” excised from it. Correlation of the audibility of each point in the spectrogram with intelligibility across mixtures estimates the importance of each spectrogram point to the utterance's intelligibility in noise.
