HDL isolated from FH subjects have lower cholesterol efflux capacity and ability to protect against LPS-stimulated TNFα expression in macrophages compared with healthy controls. HDL-isolated human subjects by DGUC were subjected to ex vivo modification of ONE. Cholesterol efflux capacity was assessed by % reduction of cellular cholesterol in macrophages loaded with acetylated LDL. To determine capacity of HDL to protect against LPS-stimulated cytokine expression, macrophages were treated with LPS along with HDL samples for 4 h. Results are plotted as mean ± S.D. Statistical significance was determined by Student's t test. *, p < 0.05.
