A herd was defined positive, if at least one sample was positive for L. intracellularis (herd- prevalence). The within- herd prevalence is the number of samples positive per analysed samples per herd within all herds per country. Age categories were classified as follows: Suckling pigs (SP) = before weaning, Nursery pigs (NP) = weaner till ~ 25 kg, Growing pigs (GP) = ~ 25- 40 kg, Finishing pigs (FP) = ~ 40 kg till slaughter, Sows (S), Boars (B)

Diagnostic methods: Enzyme linked immunosorbent essay (ELISA), indirect Immunofluorescence assay (IFA), indirect Immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT), Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), nested PCR (nPCR)
