Experimental design. In Study I C57BL/6 mice were pre-tested before photothrombosis (PT) or sham operations to assess limb placement. Selective sorting was assessed 2 days after surgeries. Animals were randomized into the treatment groups: Vehicle (Vh, NaCl 0.9%); T3 5 or 50 μg/kg; T4 5 or 50 μg/kg. Treatment was administrated via intraperitoneal injection every second day after PT or sham operations. Neurological outcome was assessed by the rotating pole test, seven and 14 days after surgeries and brains were perfusion fixed or frozen, for immunohistochemistry (IHC) or Western blot (WB), respectively. Study II was performed for dendritic spine analysis and Thy1-YFP transgenic mice were used. Treatment with Vh or T3 50 μg/kg was administered as described for Study I
