(A) JC-1 reagent was applied to test the health of the mitochondria. When the mitochondria worked normal, the JC-1 molecules aggregate and emit red fluorescence. Otherwise, if the mitochondria are damaged, JC-1 is released to the cytosol and the JC-1 monomer molecular emits green fluorescence.
