After sacrifice tibiae were harvested, decalcified in EDTA and embedded in paraffin. Sections were stained and analyzed as described in Methods to determine (A) adipocyte density (in #/mm2) and (B) the fraction of the bone marrow area composed of adipocytes (adipocyte area fraction in %). OVX significantly increased bone marrow adiposity as shown by the increase in adipocyte density and area fraction, and MMF tended to inhibit this increase. Each mouse is presented as an individual symbol with the lines and error bars representing the means ± SD of the group.
