Clinical characteristics of 12 patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and 12 age matched control patients are shown. Cardiovascular risk factors such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and smoking, as well as renal function are listed. Numbers indicate n of 12 with positive baseline characteristics in each group. Impaired renal function was defined as an elevated serum creatine level above 1.2 mg/dL.
