Illustration of the KOR-SSTR2 heteroreceptor complex in the claustrum (a) and in the dorsal endopiriform nucleus (b) of the rat brain. Microphotographs are taken from a coronal section of rat brain at Bregma (± 1.00 mm) level. The existence and distribution of the KOR-SSTR2 heteroreceptor complexes in the claustrum (a) and in the DEn (b) are demonstrated using the in situ proximity ligation assay (in situ PLA) technique. They are visualized as red PLA blobs (clusters) found in relation to a large number of cells using confocal laser microscopy. The nuclei are shown in blue by DAPI.
