Figure 6

Extrapancreatic infection in a 41-year-old man with acute post-necrotic pancreatitis who had a high fever at the late-stage of disease. Contrast-enhanced venous-phase MRI image (A) shows multiple non-encapsulated collections (arrowheads) located in the bilateral anterior pararenal spaces and the root of the mesentery. Corresponding contrast-enhanced venous-phase CT image (B) additionally identifies multiple small quantities of gas bubbles (arrows) within liquid collections. The bacterial infection was subsequently confirmed by aspiration of fluid for culture.
