Hsp70 overexpression improves outcome from experimental stroke, whereas Hsp70 deficiency worsens it. (a) Neurological deficits as estimated by the Bederson score were similar 2 h postmiddle cerebral artery occlusion among wild type (Wt), Hsp70-deficient (Ko, knockout) and Hsp70-overexpressing (Tg, transgenic) mice, but by 24 h, deficits were the most severe among the knockout and least severe among the transgenic groups.
