Buccal swabs were tested for the presence of CMV DNA. Samples that contained ≥25 IU CMV DNA/PCR reaction were considered as CMV DNA positive. Samples that were positive but contained <25 IU CMV DNA/PCR reaction were re-tested. For saliva samples that were tested negative in the initial or repeated CMV DNA, PCR internal controls (albumin, Herpesvirus saimiri (HVS)) were evaluated to exclude false negative results. *sample re-extraction and PCR black thin arrow: test result; light gray arrow: subsequent investigation; dark gray arrow: clinical report.
