(a) XRD analysis of Pd/Fe bimetallic particles (> 100 nm particles were synthesized specifically for XRD analysis). (b) Solution phase studies of the effects of Pd contents (validated using ICP) on both the dechlorination and the H2 production (CMC is 0.5 wt%, [Fe] = 500 ppm, [PCB 1]o = 5 ppm. Reaction time 10 min. T = 23 °C, pH = 7.8). The H2 production at various Pd contents was normalized with the H2 production at 0% Pd batches, which was measured as 51.2 × 10−7 mol. The mass balance between unreacted PCB 1 and produced biphenyl was achieved above 90% for every batch.
