These midpoint-rooted, maximum-likelihood trees were inferred from viral RdRp protein sequences. The names of the viruses are marked with different colours based on their host taxonomy; springtails (Collembola) are red, Diplura are violet, Monocondylia are green, and Zygentoma are blue. The star symbol denotes host taxa that contain endogenous viral elements (EVEs). Sequences from the Shi et al. (2016) have the same unique accession numbers as in the original publication. Tree (A) reoviruses from the Reo clade; tree (B) partitiviruses from the Partiti-Picobirna clade; tree (C) totiviruses from the Toti-Chryso clade. Complete trees are provided in Figs. S1 to S3.
