Sappanone A (SA) mitigated myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury in a dose-dependent manner. SA at the concentration of 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg was intraperitoneally administrated into rats 1 h prior to heart isolation, and then the hearts were isolated that underwent 30-min ischemia, followed by 120-min reperfusion. (A) Myocardial infarct size was measured by TTC staining. (B) The creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) and (C) lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in the coronary effluent were measured by spectrophotometry.
