Figure 2

Inhibition of serine proteases by IrSPI. The ability of IrSPI (1µM of refolded protein in the refolding buffer) to inhibit the activity of elastase (Elast), trypsin (Tryp), chymotrypsin (Chtryp), thrombin (Throm), and kallikrein (Kalli) on synthetic substrates was evaluated at 37 °C for 30 min. Enzyme activity was evaluated from the slope of A405 versus time and results were expressed as the mean of IrSPI-induced percentage inhibition after subtraction of the refolding buffer effect and comparison with the control. Double asterisks (**) indicate significant results as determined via ANCOVA analysis (p < 0.001).
