Recombinant HMPV viruses differed in infectivity and viral growth in reconstituted human airway epithelium (HAE). MucilAir™ epithelium from healthy donors were infected with the different rHMPV strains at a MOI of 0.1. At 5 dpi, the viral spread in infected ciliated cells was monitored by fluorescence microscopy (images at 10× magnification) and the quantity of viral genome was measured by specific RT-qPCR against the N viral gene from epithelium lysates, respectively (A) and (B) for rCAN98-75-derived viruses or (C) and (D) for rC-85473-derived viruses.
