(A) The photon counting noise results in the standard deviation of each image pixel. In the pixel-wise uncertainty simulation, normal distributions are used to sample the intensity deviation δI(x, y) in each pixel, as exemplary shown in (B) and (C) for pixels (1, 2) and (1, 1), respectively. Thereby, high intensity pixels are associated with a large absolute deviation of potential intensity values (B).
