The experimental set-up. The lung-model assembly was placed into a ventilated temperature-controlled incubator and connected to a laminar inlet tube. The inlet tube was connected to the aerosol generator attached to the compressor to produce the aerosol. A further inlet at the top of the aerosol generator allowed air-flow through the model to be regulated via a compressed air-supply. The whole apparatus was placed in a fume hood.
