Phylogenetic comparative methods were applied to reconstruct ancestral states for a set of 25 phenotypic characters measured over 99 Dictyostelium species (Romeralo, et al., 2013; Schilde, et al., 2014). Ancestral states for characters that showed a clear evolutionary progression are shown at the root and interior nodes of the Dictyostelium phylogeny. Quantitative traits such as spore-, slug-, stalk- and sorus size and contributions of prestalk, prespore and rear-guard regions to slug pattern are shown at correct relative values.
