Aberrant expression of the lncRNAs depicted on top (green circles) leads to platinum resistance through four main mechanisms: improved DNA damage response, upregulation of drug transporters leading to efflux of the drug, epithelial-mesenchymal transition or evasion of apoptosis. The molecular mechanisms suggested linking the lncRNAs to these resistance mechanisms involve interactions with miRNAs (light blue) and direct or indirect regulation of transcription factors and signaling pathways (black), as illustrated above.
